On March 10, 2022, Vice Foreign Minister Deng Li and Nigerian Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Zubairu Dada held the first meeting of the Political and Diplomatic Sub-Committee of China-Nigeria Intergovernmental Committee via video link.

Deng Li said, since the establishment of diplomatic ties between China and Nigeria more than 50 years ago, political mutual trust has continuously been deepened, and bilateral relations have maintained sound momentum of development. The China-Nigeria Intergovernmental Committee is the first intergovernmental committee mechanism established between China and an African country, fully demonstrating the great importance both sides attach to China-Nigeria relations. China is full of confidence in the development prospects of bilateral relations, and is willing to work with Nigeria to follow the guidance of the important consensus between the leaders of the two countries, engage in closer bilateral friendly exchanges, consolidate the foundation of political mutual trust, support each other more firmly, deepen pragmatic cooperation in various fields, properly implement the outcomes of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC), and promote the continuous development of bilateral relations.

Dada said, Nigeria attaches great importance to the friendly relations between Nigeria and China, will unswervingly stay committed to the one-China principle, and is willing to strengthen coordination and mutual support with China in international and regional affairs. Last year's FOCAC conference in Dakar drew up a blueprint for China-Africa cooperation. Nigeria looks forward to strengthening cooperation with China in trade, transportation, energy, digital economy, medicine, security and other fields under the FOCAC mechanism, and jointly implementing the "nine programs". Nigeria is ready to continue to leverage the platform role of the Political and Diplomatic Sub-Committee, strengthen communication and exchanges with China, and coordinate and promote bilateral cooperation in various fields.
