On May 10, 2022, Director-General of the Department of African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Wu Peng met with Director of the African Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) Abebe Aemro Selassie via video link. Wu Peng mainly exchanged views with Selassie on China-Africa financing cooperation and the lending of Special Drawing Rights (SDR) to African countries. He stressed that China is actively committed to implementing the outcomes of the Dakar Meeting of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation, and China-Africa investment and financing cooperation are mutually beneficial. He hopes that the IMF will speed up the lending of SDR to enhance the capacity for independent development of African countries. China is ready to work with the international community, including the IMF, to help Africa achieve post-pandemic economic recovery and sustainable development.

Selassie spoke highly of the achievements of China-Africa cooperation, saying that China is one of the largest contributors to Africa's debt relief among G20 members, and China's loans have made important contributions to Africa's development. The IMF is willing to take a long-term view, accelerate the lending of SDR, and maintain close communication with China to jointly promote Africa's economic and social development.
