Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Xue Bing Attends the Horn of Africa Peace Conference

From June 20 to 21, 2022, the Horn of Africa Peace Conference was held in Addis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, which was attended by senior official representatives of Ethiopia, Djibouti, Somalia, Kenya, Uganda, Sudan and South Sudan, among others. Special Envoy for the Horn of Africa Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Xue Bing, upon invitation, attended and addressed the meeting, and Chinese Ambassador to Ethiopia Zhao Zhiyuan was present.

Special Envoy Xue Bing said, as the world today is undergoing major changes unseen in a century, President Xi Jinping has put forward the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative in succession, charting the course for the realization of sustainable development and shared security in the world. At the beginning of this year, China, based on regional realities and the common interests of all countries in the region, put forward the "Initiative of Peaceful Development in the Horn of Africa", which aims to support regional countries in seeking strength through solidarity and striving to achieve durable stability, security, development and prosperity in the Horn of Africa. China is ready to work with Africa to jointly advance the "Initiative of Peaceful Development in the Horn of Africa", and make positive contributions to the peaceful development in the Horn of Africa through Belt and Road cooperation between China and Africa and the implementation of outcomes of the Eighth Ministerial Conference of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation.

During the meeting, representatives of all parties fully exchanged views on independently tackling challenges together such as regional security, development and governance. They thank China for its important contribution to regional peace and development and look forward to further strengthening coordination and cooperation with China. A joint statement was released at the meeting.
