On July 13, 2022, Burundian President Evariste Ndayishimiye met with visiting Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu at the presidential palace in Bujumbura. Chinese Ambassador to Burundi Zhao Jiangping and others were present at the meeting.

Ndayishimiye welcomed Special Representative Xu Jinghu's visit to Burundi, saying that the Burundi-China friendship dates back to ancient times. China has provided invaluable and long-term support for Burundi's economic and social development and, in particular, has gone all out to help Burundi tide over difficulties during its trying times. The Burundian side will always remember that. In recent years, the two countries have deepened political mutual trust, and cooperation in various fields has yielded fruitful outcomes. Burundi is ready to continue close collaboration with China, strengthen cooperation in agriculture, infrastructure, healthcare and other fields, deepen experience-sharing on state governance, and jointly promote the sustained and in-depth development of the "all-weather" partnership between the two countries.

Xu Jinghu said, China and Burundi are good friends, good partners and good brothers. The two countries have rendered all-weather support to each other and engaged in all-round and close cooperation. It's fair to say that China-Burundi cooperation has set a prime example of China-Africa cooperation and South-South cooperation. Since President Xi Jinping had a phone conversation with Your Excellency President in March 2021, the two sides have actively followed through on the important consensus reached by the two heads of state and made new positive progress in cooperation in various fields. China is ready to work with Burundi to further deepen traditional friendship, consolidate political mutual trust and strengthen pragmatic cooperation, so as to constantly push bilateral relations to new levels.

Special Representative Xu Jinghu visited Burundi from July 11 to 14. During the visit, she also held talks with Permanent Secretary of Burundi's Foreign Ministry Ferdinand BASHIKAKO.
