On July 22, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Korean Peninsula Affairs Liu Xiaoming had a phone call with Vice Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov of Russia. They exchanged views on the situation on the Korean Peninsula.

Both believed that maintaining peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula serves the shared interests of regional countries and the international community. The parties concerned should exercise restraint, and work together to resolve each other’s concerns in a balanced way. The legitimate and reasonable concerns of the DPRK should be taken seriously and addressed accordingly. Relevant parties need to show sincerity and take concrete actions to create conditions for resumption of meaningful talks. They agreed that China and Russia should keep communication and strengthen coordination bilaterally and in multilateral fora, and jointly play a constructive role for promoting the political settlement of the Peninsula issue.
