Madagascan President Andry Nirina Rajoelina Meets with Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu

On August 8, 2022, Madagascan President Andry Nirina Rajoelina met with the visiting Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu in Antananarivo. Chinese Ambassador to Madagascar Guo Xiaomei, among others, was present.

President Rajoelina asked Xu Jinghu to convey his sincere greetings to President Xi Jinping. Rajoelina expressed that the Madagascan side thanked the Chinese side for providing assistance for Madagascar when it suffered the COVID-19 pandemic, hurricane disasters, and other difficulties. It demonstrates the brotherly friendship between the two countries in weal and woe. The Madagascan side is firmly committed to the one-China principle, and firmly supports China's great cause of reunification. The Madagascan side highly appreciates the Belt and Road Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping, and stands ready to work with the Chinese side to strengthen Belt and Road cooperation, and elevate the comprehensive cooperative partnership between the two countries to a new level.

Xu Jinghu conveyed warm greetings from President Xi Jinping to President Rajoelina. Xu Jinghu said, for the past 50 years since the establishment of diplomatic relationship, China and Madagascar have always enjoyed sincere friendship, respected each other, and treated each other as equals. The bilateral relations have maintained sound and steady development. The Chinese side cherishes the China-Madagascar traditional friendship, and stands ready to work with the Madagascan side to take the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship as a new starting point to further enhance political mutual trust, strengthen mutual support, and deepen practical cooperation, to work toward new and greater development of bilateral relations in the new era.

Special Representative Xu Jinghu visited Madagascar from August 6 to 9, during which she met with Madagascan Foreign Minister Richard Randriamandrato, and held talks with Secretary General of Madagascan Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ratsimandao Tahirimiakadaza.
