Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng: China's Countermeasures in Response to Nancy Pelosi's Visit to Taiwan Is to Say No to the Hegemony and Bullying of the United States on Behalf of the International Community

On September 1, 2022, when delivering a video address at the opening ceremony of the Fifth Forum on China and LAC: Dialogues between Civilizations, Vice Foreign Minister Xie Feng said, to maintain its hegemony and self-interest, a certain country is still obsessed with the law of the jungle featuring isolation rather than exchanges, arrogance rather than mutual learning, and conflicts rather than co-existence. It has doubled efforts to practice unilaterally-defined rules with its own interests taking precedence and featuring double standards, form exclusive "cliques" and gang up on countries who don't follow suit, use the customary trick of fanning the flame or adding fuel to the fire and creating turbulence, provoke a "new Cold War" of a zero-sum game, interference and sanctions, and act as a bully and the boss of the world that whoever stands with it shall prosper and whoever doesn't shall perish.

Xie Feng pointed out, for people like Nancy Pelosi, their visits to Taiwan once again prove that the US has deliberately distorted, fudged and hollowed out the one-China principle, maliciously provoked and created tensions across the Taiwan Strait, and emboldened the "Taiwan independence" forces. It has seriously violated the principle of international law of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity, and grossly trampled on non-interference in internal affairs, a basic norm governing international relations. This is a blatant challenge to the international rules and order observed by the international community, and to the development and progress of human civilization!

Xie Feng stressed that China's resolute and strong countermeasures are not only to safeguard its own legitimate rights and interests, but also to safeguard international fairness and justice as well as international rules and order. On behalf of the international community, China firmly says no to the US belief that might is right, firmly says no to its attempt to disguise the unilaterally-defined rules that suit its bloc as the so-called international rules and order, and firmly says no to its attempt to promote a global version of the "Monroe Doctrine" in the 21st century!
