On September 1, 2022, Vice Foreign Minister Deng Li held the China-Ireland political consultation between the two foreign ministries with Deputy Secretary-General of the Irish Foreign Ministry Sonja Hyland via video link.

Deng Li said, this year marks the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the China-Ireland strategic partnership for mutually beneficial cooperation. Bilateral exchanges and cooperation have maintained strong momentum. On the basis of mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit, China will continue to strengthen high-level guidance with Ireland, enhance political mutual trust, expand practical cooperation in various fields and constantly push for new progress in China-Ireland and China-EU relations. China supports Ireland in acting as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for the 2021-2022 term and playing a unique and constructive role in international affairs. China stands ready to strengthen coordination with Ireland to jointly uphold multilateralism, promote the unity of all parties in addressing global challenges, and promote world peace, security and development.

Deng Li clarified China’s solemn position on the so-called report about Xinjiang issued by the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, stressing that the relevant report is totally illegal and invalid because it misrepresents facts and is deluged with lies and fallacies.

Hyland said, in recent years, Ireland-China relations have been developing smoothly and bilateral exchanges and cooperation have been expanding in depth and breadth. The Irish side adheres to the one-China policy, supports the development of EU-China relations, and stands ready to strengthen communication and coordination with China on climate change, food security and other issues.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Ukraine crisis and other international hotspot issues.
