On September 13, 2022, Kenyan President William Ruto met with Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Liu Yuxi in Nairobi. The two sides exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest. Chinese Ambassador to Kenya Zhou Pingjian was present at the meeting.

Liu Yuxi conveyed President Xi Jinping's congratulations to President Ruto. Noting the time-honored friendship between China and Kenya, Liu Yuxi hailed the leapfrog development in bilateral relations since the establishment of diplomatic relations nearly 60 years ago as a good example of common development between developing countries. He said China is ready to work with Kenya to carry forward the traditional friendship, deepen practical cooperation, promote even better development of bilateral relations, and steer bilateral cooperation to new achievements.

President Ruto asked Liu Yuxi to convey his high regard for President Xi Jinping and his thanks to President Xi for sending him a congratulatory message shortly after his election as Kenyan president. Describing China as an important partner of Kenya, Ruto stated that Kenya sincerely appreciates China's genuine assistance for Kenya's economic and social development, and stands ready to further deepen relations with China, welcome more Chinese companies to Kenya for investment and business operations, and work for new progress in bilateral cooperation in infrastructure building, agriculture, education and other fields.

Special Representative Liu Yuxi visited Kenya on September 11-13 at Kenya’s invitation, and attended President Ruto’s inauguration ceremony. During the trip, he visited the Nairobi expressway, Mombasa-Nairobi railway and other cooperation projects.
