Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi Attends the Reception Marking the 201st Anniversary of the Independence of El Salvador

On September 15, 2022, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Latin American Affairs Qiu Xiaoqi attended the reception marking the 201st anniversary of the independence of El Salvador. More than 80 people, including Latin American diplomatic envoys to China, Salvadoran expats in China, and representatives of the business community, were present.

In his speech, Special Representative Qiu Xiaoqi, extended, on behalf of the Chinese government, warm congratulations to El Salvador on its 201st anniversary of independence, and wished El Salvador new and greater achievements in exploring a development path suited to its national conditions. Qiu Xiaoqi said that since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 2018, under the strategic guidance of the heads of state of the two countries, political mutual trust between China and El Salvador has increasingly deepened, and bilateral relations have made remarkable progress, bringing tremendous benefits to the two peoples. He expressed the confidence that under the leadership of the leaders of the two countries, and with the concerted efforts of the people of all walks of life on the two sides, China-El Salvador relations will brave wind and waves, and set sail for an even more brilliant future. Qiu Xiaoqi pointed out that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) will be convened next month to scientifically set out the goals, tasks and major policies for the advancement of the Party and country's causes in the next five years and beyond. China and El Salvador are both developing countries. China is ready to enhance mutual learning with El Salvador on state governance to promote better development of their respective countries.

Salvadoran Ambassador to China Aldonov F. Alvarez spoke highly of China's remarkable achievements in economic and social development, quoting President Xi Jinping's speech at the ceremony marking the centenary of the CPC. Alvarez stressed that China is a true friend and good partner sharing similar goals. His country sincerely appreciates China's valuable support in the past four years since establishment of diplomatic relations, and stands ready to join hands with China in advancing the common development of the two countries on the basis of mutual respect and mutual benefit.

The event was held in a warm and lively atmosphere. Special representative Qiu Xiaoqi and Ambassador Alvarez, among others, jointly unveiled the commemorative envelope marking the 201st anniversary of El Salvador’s independence.
