Vice President of Ghana Mahamudu Bawumia Meets with Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Liu Yuxi

On December 14, 2022, Vice President of Ghana Mahamudu Bawumia met with Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Liu Yuxi at the Presidential Palace. They exchanged views on bilateral relations and issues of mutual interest and concern.

Liu Yuxi said that Ghana is an important cooperative partner of China in Africa. Under the personal care and support of President Xi Jinping and President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, China-Ghana political mutual trust has markedly enhanced, and practical cooperation has shown strong momentum of growth. China thanks Ghana for its firm support on issues concerning China's core interests, and stands ready to work with Ghana to continuously advance cooperation in various fields, and jointly uphold multilateralism and international fairness and justice within the frameworks of Belt and Road cooperation and the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. Liu Yuxi also briefed the Ghanaian side on the historic significance and important outcomes of the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China, and said that China supports Ghana in pursuing a development path suited to its national conditions and stands ready to work with Africa to accelerate the building of a closer China-Africa community with a shared future.

Bawumia warmly congratulated on the success of the 20th CPC National Congress and President Xi Jinping's re-election as General Secretary of the CPC Central Committee. Bawumia said that Ghana-China traditional friendship was forged by the elder generations of leaders of the two countries, and bilateral relations are built on the basis of mutual respect, solidarity and mutual assistance and the principle of non-interference in internal affairs, and have maintained sound momentum of development over the years. Ghana attaches great importance to developing relations with China, is firmly committed to the one-China principle, thanks China for providing precious support for Ghana in its economic and social development, and stands ready to work with China to strengthen cooperation in such fields as infrastructure, peace and security, step up communication and coordination on international affairs, and constantly elevate Ghana-China relations to new heights.

Special Representative Liu Yuxi paid a friendly visit to Ghana from December 12 to 14 at the latter's invitation. During the visit, he also met with Acting Minister for Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration of Ghana Kwaku Ampratwum-Sarpong.
