Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong Meets with New Bangladeshi Ambassador to China Md. Jashim Uddin

On December 27, 2022, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with the new Bangladeshi Ambassador to China Md. Jashim Uddin. They exchanged views on bilateral relations and other issues.

Liu Jinsong congratulated Uddin and welcomed him to China for assuming the new post. Noting that China and Bangladesh are close neighbors with traditional friendship, Liu Jinsong said that the bilateral relationship has withstood the test of changes in the international landscape and respective domestic situations, and kept developing steadily, setting a fine example of treating each other as equals and living in amity between countries of different sizes. He noted that in recent years, leaders of China and Bangladesh have maintained close exchanges through different modalities, with mutual understanding and mutual trust between the two countries increasingly deepening and high-quality Belt and Road cooperation yielding fruitful results. Recalling accompanying State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi to Bangladesh for a visit in August this year, Liu Jinsong said that during the visit he saw for himself Bangladesh's economic and social development, and keenly felt the strong public support for China-Bangladesh friendship in the country, and the interconnection and mutual reinforcement between the Chinese Dream of national rejuvenation and the dream of Sonar Bangla (golden Bangla). Liu Jinsong pointed out that China has just introduced an overall plan to manage COVID-19 with measures against Class-B infectious diseases and refined the management of cross-border travel, which will greatly promote people-to-people and cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Bangladesh.

Liu Jinsong thanked the Ambassador for coming to the Foreign Ministry to mourn the passing of Comrade Jiang Zemin shortly after his assumption of office, noting that this has reflected his friendly sentiment towards the Chinese people. He stressed that the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) successfully held not long ago has laid out the essential goals of Chinese modernization, and underscored China’s commitment to enhancing friendly ties, mutual trust, and converging interests with neighboring countries in accordance with the principles of amity, sincerity, mutual benefit, and inclusiveness and the policy of forging friendships and partnerships with its neighbors; the recently concluded Central Economic Work Conference has emphasized the importance of promoting high-standard opening up and redoubling efforts to boost domestic demand; and the Global Development Initiative and the Global Security Initiative put forward by President Xi Jinping have offered Chinese proposals for addressing common challenges of mankind and achieving enduring peace and security in the world. Liu said that all this will bring greater opportunities to China-Bangladesh cooperation, and China is ready to work with Bangladesh to quickly implement the important common understandings reached between the leaders of the two countries, deepen friendly exchanges and cooperation in various fields, help Bangladesh advance industrialization, modernization and digitalization, and jointly promote the building of a human community with a shared future.

Uddin expressed Bangladesh's congratulations on the success of the 20th CPC National Congress. He said that Bangladesh appreciates China's great achievements in economic development and pandemic response, and thanks China for its valuable support for the country’s fight against the pandemic in the past few years. Recalling President Xi Jinping's historic visit to Bangladesh in 2016, the Ambassador said that the visit has upgraded bilateral relations to a strategic cooperative partnership, and yielded a number of practical outcomes, opening a new chapter in Bangladesh-China relations. He also noted the successful visit by State Councilor Wang Yi to Bangladesh in August this year, saying that China is Bangladesh's largest trading partner, a sincere friend and an important development partner. He stressed that Bangladesh has always firmly upheld the one-China policy and always attached importance to and actively participated in the major initiatives put forward by China, and that Bangladesh looks forward to engaging in high-quality Belt and Road cooperation with China, advancing the construction of major projects, and stepping up cultural, educational, youth and other people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between the two sides. Noting the responsibilities he shoulders as an ambassador to China, Uddin expressed readiness to work all out during his term of office to promote new progress in Bangladesh-China relations.
