On December 29, 2022, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with Nepal’s Ambassador to China Bishnu Pukar Shrestha. They exchanged views on bilateral relations and other issues.

Liu extended congratulations to Mr. Pushpa Kamal Dahal, also known as Prachanda, on his assumption of office as the new Prime Minister of Nepal. He said that Prime Minister Prachanda published an article on social media on the day of his inauguration to commemorate the birthday of Chairman Mao Zedong; and the Ambassador came to the Foreign Ministry to mourn the passing of Comrade Jiang Zemin not long ago – all this shows Nepal's deep friendship towards the Chinese people. He noted that recent time has seen good progress in China-Nepal practical cooperation. The Chinese technical expert team for the China-Nepal cross-border railway project has successfully arrived in Nepal for preliminary research. Two-way cargo shipment has been resumed at Jilong Port, so has the one-way cargo shipment to Nepal at Pulan Port. China looks forward to deepening mutually beneficial cooperation with the new government of Nepal to advance the high-quality Belt and Road cooperation, jointly promote the implementation of Global Development Initiative and Global Security Initiative, and build a closer China-Nepal community with a shared future.

Shrestha said that the new government of Nepal led by Prime Minister Prachanda is committed to actively developing relations with China, firmly following the one-China policy, and not allowing any force to use Nepal's territory for anti-China activities. Nepal is ready to strengthen high-level exchanges, deepen economic and trade cooperation, and expand exchanges and cooperation in various fields with China to achieve common development. Shrestha said he is glad to see that China has introduced a new plan to manage COVID-19, which will give a strong boost to people-to-people exchanges and cooperation between China and Nepal. He believes that in the coming year, under the strategic guidance of the leaders of the two countries, Nepal-China relations will achieve new and greater development.
