On January 16, 2023, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong held a video meeting with Director-General of the Department of East Asian Affairs of the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs Chatchai Viriyavejakul.

Liu said that the Chinese government has refined its COVID-19 prevention and control measures in light of the evolving situation which will inject stronger impetus into China's economy and bring new opportunities for people-to-people exchanges and mutually beneficial cooperation between China and other countries. Thai Deputy Prime Minister and a number of ministers greeted the first group of Chinese tourists to Thailand in three years at the airport with garlands and a welcome banner written in Chinese characters "China and Thailand are one family. Amazing Thailand always warmly welcomes our Chinese family!" Those Chinese tourists were very happy and same as people back in China who expressed the hope to visit their “Thai relatives" later. As China is Thailand's largest source of tourists and students, he believed that this year, the cultural and people-to-people exchanges between China and Thailand will become closer in all respects.

Liu stressed that China and Thailand are good neighbors, good friends, good relatives and good partners. China is ready to work with Thailand to promptly implement the outcomes of President Xi Jinping's historic visit to Thailand in November last year, strengthen exchanges at all levels, make good plans for bilateral cooperation in various fields, and kick off a good start in building a China-Thailand community with a shared future. The two sides should focus on promoting the effective implementation of the vision of interconnected development of China, Laos and Thailand, speed up the construction of the connection lines between the China-Thailand Railway and the China-Laos-Thailand railway, and upgrade the level of "hard connectivity" in infrastructure and "soft connectivity" in logistics and customs clearance. The two sides should take the 10th anniversary of the Belt and Road Initiative as an opportunity to deepen the synergy of development strategies between the two countries, implement the Cooperation Plan Between China and Thailand on Jointly Promoting the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st Century Maritime Silk Road, expand cooperation in fields such as digital economy, and scientific and technological innovation, and help Thailand promote the Bio-Circular-Green Economic Model. In recent years, quality Thai films and TV shows like Love Destiny have attracted wide attention in China. Many popular Chinese TV dramas, games and other online cultural products are also increasingly popular among Thai young people. The two sides should continue to encourage and support cultural cooperation and promote the development of cultural programs between the two countries.

Chatchai said that China's improvement and re-calibration of COVID-19 prevention and control measures are of great significance to boosting the economy of Thailand and other countries in the region and promoting global economic recovery. Thailand looks forward to expanding personnel exchanges with China, warmly welcomes Chinese tourists to visit Thailand and will provide them good care and warm services and safety guarantees. President Xi Jinping's historic visit to Thailand in November last year was an important milestone in the history of Thailand-China relations. Thailand is ready to work with China to earnestly implement the outcomes of this visit, accelerate the construction of the Thailand-China Railway and the vision of interconnected development of China, Laos and Thailand, support the alignment of Thailand's Eastern Economic Corridor and the Belt and Road Initiative, and strengthen cooperation in sustainable development and infrastructure construction, so as to work for more practical outcomes in building a Thailand-China community with a shared future.

The two sides also exchanged views on the current situation in Asia, regional cooperation and regional hotspot issues in a friendly and sincere manner. They agreed that the two sides have achieved a lot of common understandings.
