On April 13, 2023, Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue Zhai Jun met with Ambassador of Yemen to China Dr. Mohammed Al-Maitami.

Dr. Mohammed Al-Maitami said that the war in Yemen has dragged on for years, and the Yemeni people have been subjected to huge sufferings, and longed for peace and stability. The recent important outcomes achieved at the Saudi-Iran talks in Beijing have brought about positive changes to regional hotspot issues, including the situation in Yemen. Yemen and China enjoy traditional friendship, and Yemen sincerely expects China to continue to play a role in promoting the political settlement of the Yemeni issue.

Zhai Jun said that China supports Yemen in safeguarding its sovereignty, independence, unity, and territorial integrity, and supports a political settlement of the Yemeni issue. The talks between Saudi Arabia and Iran in Beijing have added positive factors to efforts to promote regional peace and stability, and created favorable conditions for improving the situation in Yemen. China is ready to work with the international community to continue to make relentless efforts for the political settlement of the Yemeni issue and peace and stability in the Middle East.
