The pursuit of peace and development and opposition to interference has become the aspirations of the people in the region. The participants at the meeting exchanged in-depth views on the overall situation in the Middle East and regional hotspot issues and reached extensive consensus. The joint statement adopted at the meeting made a common voice on supporting multilateralism, respecting the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of countries in the Middle East, and building a zone free of nuclear weapons and other weapons of mass destruction in the Middle East, as well as championing political settlement of regional hotspot issues related to Palestine, Syria, Yemen and Sudan.

Zhai Jun also briefed the participants on China’s support for the resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran. The parties spoke highly of the resumption of diplomatic relations between Saudi Arabia and Iran and its significant impact on easing the regional situation. South Africa, Russia, Brazil and other countries highly appreciated China’s efforts to this end.
