Special Envoy of the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Afghan Affairs Sun Yuxi Holds Briefing for Chinese and Pakistani Media

On July 27, 2014, Special Envoy of the Chinese Foreign Ministry on Afghan Affairs Sun Yuxi held a briefing for Chinese and Pakistani media in Islamabad, briefing on his visits to Pakistan and Afghanistan and answering questions from journalists. Media from China and Pakistan including Xinhua News Agency, People's Daily, China Central Television (CCTV), China Radio International (CRI) as well as Pakistan Television (PTV), Associated Press of Pakistan (APP), Independent News Pakistan, News, Pakistan Observer and so on attended the briefing.

Special Envoy Sun briefed on his visit to Afghanistan and expressed that President Hamid Karzai and two presidential candidates Ashraf Ghani and Abdullah Abdullah all hope to form a government featuring national solidarity and achieve national reconciliation and economic development. The Chinese side supports the peaceful reconciliation process "led by Afghan people and owned by Afghan people", continues to provide assistance within its capacity for Afghanistan and encourages more Chinese enterprises to invest and conduct business in Afghanistan.

When asked about the role of Pakistan on the Afghan issue, Special Envoy Sun expressed that Pakistan has been playing an irreplaceable and unique role. China stands ready to coordinate closely with relevant parties of the international community to promote the national reconciliation process of Afghanistan as soon as possible and to push Afghanistan to realize peace, stability and development at an early date.
