Special Envoy Gong Xiaosheng meets with Egyptian Minister of International Cooperation

From September 21 to 22, 2014, when visiting Egypt, China's Special Envoy on the Middle East Issue Gong Xiaosheng met respectively in Cairo with Minister of International Cooperation Naglaa el-Ahwany, Assistant Foreign Minister Mohamed Badr El-Din Zayed and Assistant to the Director of the General Intelligence Directorate Halid of Egypt, exchanging views on Palestine-Israel situation and other regional hotspot issues. H.E. Song Aiguo, Chinese Ambassador to Egypt, attended relevant events.

Special Envoy Gong Xiaosheng said that China is deeply concerned and worried about the continuous tension in the Middle East, especially the resurgence of the Palestine-Israel conflict in the previous phase which caused heavy casualties and loss of property. As a major Arab country and a major regional country, Egypt plays a positive and important role in safeguarding regional peace and stability. Egypt has made huge efforts to promote ceasefire amid this round of Gaza conflict, and China highly appreciates this. China is willing to join efforts with regional countries including Egypt to make positive contributions to easing the tension and achieving security, stability and development in the region.

Egypt highly appreciates China's important and positive role in seeking the political settlement to regional hotspot issues and stands ready to keep close cooperation with China to this end.

On September 22, Special Envoy Gong Xiaosheng also met with officials of the League of Arab States (LAS) at the LAS headquarters.
