Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming Visits Iran

From January 8 to10, 2016, Vice Foreign Minister Zhang Ming visited Iran, during which he met with Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif of Iran and held talks with Deputy Foreign Minister Ebrahim Rahimpour of Iran.

Zhang Ming said that China and Iran witness frequent high-level exchanges and positive progress in bilateral all-round cooperation in recent years. China attaches high importance to developing its relations with Iran and will work with Iran to constantly enhance political mutual trust, fully tap cooperation potential and actively carry out cooperation in infrastructure construction and production capacity under the framework of "Belt and Road". The Iranian side expressed its willingness to, together with China, keep the momentum of high-level exchanges, advance the construction of "Belt and Road" and deepen cooperation in such areas as economy, trade, investment, energy, connectivity, science, technology and people-to-people and cultural exchanges, and thanked China for its active efforts in the reaching of the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue.

Zhang Ming also exchanged in-depth views with the Iranian side on current regional situation especially the relations between Iran and Saudi Arabia, and expressed his hope that relevant parties will stay calm and exercise restraint, solve the differences through dialogues and negotiations and jointly safeguard regional peace and stability. The Iranian side elaborated its stance on relevant issues and appreciated China's positive role in regional affairs.
