Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou Attends Brussels Conference on Afghanistan

On October 4 and 5, 2016, Assistant Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou and Special Envoy on Afghan Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Deng Xijun attended the Ministerial Conference on Afghanistan in Brussels. The meeting focused on the international community's support to the peaceful reconstruction of Afghanistan, advancing the reconciliation process in Afghanistan and strengthening regional economic cooperation. A meeting communiqué was issued as well.

The Chinese side expressed at the meeting that achieving lasting peace, stability and development in Afghanistan conforms to the interests of regional countries. As a friendly neighbor of Afghanistan, China attaches great importance to the Afghan issue and has made positive efforts to promoting the peaceful reconstruction process in Afghanistan and regional cooperation for a long time. China is willing to continue to maintain close communication with all relevant parties, and actively participate in relevant cooperation of the international community, so as to play a constructive role in facilitating the settlement of the Afghan issue.
