Foreign Ministry Summons Canadian Ambassador to China to Lodge Solemn Representations Against Unreasonable Detention of a Corporate Executive of Huawei by the Canadian Side

2018/12/08

On December 8, 2018, Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng urgently summoned Canadian Ambassador to China John McCallum, lodging solemn representations and strong protests against the unreasonable detention of a corporate executive of Huawei by the Canadian side.

Le Yucheng pointed out that the Canadian side, at the behest of the United States side, detained a Chinese citizen who was transferring flights in Vancouver of Canada, which severely violates the legitimate rights and interests of the Chinese citizen. Such a move ignores the law and is unreasonable, unconscionable, and extremely vile in nature. The Chinese side strongly urges the Canadian side to immediately release the detainee and effectively protect the person's legitimate rights and interests. Otherwise, it will definitely have grave consequences, and the Canadian side will have to bear the full responsibility for it.
