On December 21, 2018, Assistant Foreign Minister Zhang Hanhui and Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov of Russia held consultation in Beijing. Both sides exchanged in-depth views on the arrangement of high-level exchanges between the two countries next year, the integration and cooperation between the Belt and Road Initiative and the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU), the cooperation of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) and other topics.

The two sides agreed that under the strategic guidance of the two Heads of State, China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership of coordination has made great development at a high level this year with fruitful outcomes of cooperation yielded in various fields. Next year marks the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Russia. The two sides will continue to make joint efforts to well prepare for a series of important high-level exchanges and well manage the activities celebrating the 70th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relationship between China and Russia with exchanges between the two Heads of State at the core. Both sides will promote the alignment of the building of the Belt and Road Initiative and the EAEU and cooperation in various fields, and intensify collaboration within the SCO framework and other multilateral frameworks, so as to elevate China-Russia relations to new highs in next year, which is an important year, and to make greater contributions to safeguarding international equity and justice as well as world peace and stability.
