Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu Visits Burundi

From January 10 to 13, 2019, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Xu Jinghu paid a friendly visit to Burundi. During the visit, Special Representative Xu Jinghu respectively met with President Pierre Nkurunziza and Foreign Minister Ezechiel Nibigira of Burundi, exchanging views on bilateral relations, implementation of the results of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) and issues of common concern. H.E. Li Changlin, Chinese Ambassador to Burundi, attended the meeting.

Special Representative Xu Jinghu said that China and Burundi enjoy profound friendship. In recent years, under the joint care and promotion of President Xi Jinping and President Pierre Nkurunziza, China-Burundi relations have developed rapidly, with fruitful results in various fields. Bilateral relations are at the best period in history. The Chinese side is willing to strengthen communication and integration with the Burundian side and implement the results of the FOCAC Beijing Summit in an orderly and efficient manner, so as to better benefit the two peoples.

President Pierre Nkurunziza and Foreign Minister Ezechiel Nibigira expressed that Burundi and China are as close as one family and thanked the Chinese side for providing a great deal of assistance and support for the Burundian side for a long time. The Burundian side attaches great importance to the development of Burundi-China relations, and stands ready to work with the Chinese side to continuously understand and support each other on issues concerning respective core interests and major concerns and work together to well implement the results of the FOCAC Beijing Summit, so as to push Burundi-China relations to constantly reach new levels.
