Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng Meets with Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana

On January 14, 2019, Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng met with newly-appointed Executive Secretary of the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (UN ESCAP) Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana, who was visiting China upon invitation.

Le Yucheng expressed that the Chinese side attaches great importance to the position and role of the UN ESCAP, and is willing to, together with the UN ESCAP, uphold the concept of extensive consultation, joint contribution and shared benefits to strengthen cooperation under the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative, tap into potential for cooperation in an in-depth manner, elevate cooperation level and jointly push for regional connectivity and the economic integration process, in a bid to inject impetus into the implementation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana noted that the UN ESCAP highly appreciates China's leading role in such aspects as adhering to multilateralism and promoting global development. The UN ESCAP stands ready to work with the Chinese side to enhance cooperation in various areas, so as to make contributions to the development and prosperity of the Asia-Pacific region.
