Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou Visits Malaysia

On January 28, 2019, Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou visited Malaysia, during which he respectively met with Foreign Minister Saifuddin Abdullah, Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng, former Chairman of the Council of Eminent Persons Tun Daim Zainuddin and Secretary-General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Dato’ Sri Muhammad Shahrul Ikram Yaakob of Malaysia, and exchanged views with the Malaysian side on China-Malaysia relations and issues of common concern.

Kong Xuanyou expressed that this year marks the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Malaysia. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the Malaysian side, take this as an opportunity to advance bilateral cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and well hold the series of celebration activities, in a bid to push China-Malaysia comprehensive strategic partnership for greater development. The Chinese side attaches importance to Malaysia’s role in international and regional affairs and is ready to continue intensifying communication and cooperation with the Malaysian side, so as to promote the improvement and upgrade of relations between China and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations, and build an open world economy. The Chinese side also stands ready to work with the Malaysian side to jointly advance the consultation process of the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea and safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.

The Malaysian side noted that Malaysia regards China as an important partner, highly values its relations with China, and supports the Belt and Road Initiative. Malaysia stands ready to work with the Chinese side to jointly well hold the celebration activities marking the 45th anniversary of the establishment of Malaysia-China diplomatic relations, and expand and deepen cooperation in various fields, so as to promote bilateral relations to new stages. The Malaysian side is willing to strengthen coordination and cooperation with the Chinese side on regional and international affairs.
