2019/03/15

After attending the Adoption of the Universal Periodic Review Outcome Report on China at the United Nations, Head of the Chinese Delegation and Vice Foreign Minister Le Yucheng told the press that China has always remained committed to taking the people-centered approach to advance human rights development in China and has always taken meeting people's need and aspiration for a better life as its goal. We have put in place the world's largest education, social security, medical care and community-level democratic systems. As shown by authoritative international surveys, China is one of the world's most secure and vibrant nations where people's contentment is among the highest level. Taking a look at the world, we will find many countries and regions are in turmoil and crisis. However, China still remains peaceful despite global turbulence and constantly injects certainties and stabilities into this uncertain world.

Le Yucheng stressed that this year marks the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China. The achievements and progress of China's human rights in the past seven decades are historic, comprehensive and unprecedented. Through the endeavor of the past 7 decades, we have met the basic needs of nearly 1.4 billion Chinese people and are now building a moderately prosperous society in full swing. Over the past 40 years, China has lifted 740 million people out of poverty. 2018 also saw 13.86 million people lifted out of poverty. And by 2020, we aim to achieve comprehensive poverty reduction with no one left behind and lift the 1.4 billion Chinese people out of absolute poverty. It is fair to say that China has made a new great achievement in the history of the development and in the history of poverty reduction of the world. This is the largest human rights project, the best human rights story, and also the most important contribution of China to the cause of human rights of the world.
