Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu Attends the Asian ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Senior Officials' Meeting

On August 6, 2019, the Asian ASEM (Asia-Europe Meeting) Senior Officials' Meeting, which was proposed and hosted by China, was held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province. Senior representatives from 21 Asian countries and the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) were present. Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu attended and addressed the opening ceremony.

Ma Zhaoxu noted, the ASEM is the largest inter-governmental platform for dialogue and cooperation in Eurasia. Under the current international situation, all parties in Asia and Europe, especially the Asian partners of the ASEM, should strengthen unity and cooperation, defend multilateralism and build an open world economy. They should also focus on advancing connectivity construction, and continue to strengthen exchanges and coordination, in a bid to promote the better development of the ASEM and benefit people of all countries in Asia and Europe.

Ma Zhaoxu said, coming this October, the People's Republic of China will mark its 70th anniversary. China will continue to comprehensively deepen reforms and expand opening up to provide more cooperation opportunities for the world. China will work with other countries to build a community with a shared future for mankind.

Senior officials from various countries appreciated the Chinese side for hosting this meeting and expressed their willingness to strengthen unity and cooperation, support multilateralism, and enhance practical cooperation in such areas as connectivity construction, so as to elevate Asia-Europe cooperation to new highs.
