On 2 June, Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Zhao Lijian said at a regular press conference that, at the invitation of relevant countries, experts of Chinese medical teams have made a total of 148 visits to 11 African countries in support of their response to COVID-19. China-Africa cooperation against the virus has been highly commended by relevant countries.

Zhao said that China and Africa are good friends and good brothers that support each other in times of difficulty. China's medical expert teams had in-depth exchanges and shared experience with relevant departments and health workers of African countries. They talked to local communities, visited designated hospitals and laboratories, and guided resident Chinese medical teams in helping with local COVID-19 response. Their efforts have been widely applauded by relevant countries.

Zhao said that the Africa Centers for Disease Control project is an important outcome of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (FOCAC) Beijing Summit in 2018. It is also a major step taken by China to help Africa strengthen its public health disease prevention and control system and capacity-building. China attaches great importance to this project, and is working actively with the African side on the preliminary preparations so that the project can start its construction at an early date and contribute even more to the well-being of the African people.
