Vice Foreign Minister Luo Zhaohui Speaks on the Phone with Gabriel Lim, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore

2020/08/06

On August 6, 2020, Luo Zhaohui, Vice Foreign Minister and Chinese senior official of bilateral cooperation mechanism between China and Singapore had a phone call with Gabriel Lim, Singaporean senior official of the mechanism and Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Trade and Industry of Singapore.

Both sides shared the view that China-Singapore relations enjoy a sound development momentum. Last month, President Xi Jinping spoke with Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong on the phone, reaching important consensuses on the development of bilateral relations under the new circumstances. Vice Premier Han Zheng and Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat held a phone conversation last week, and agreed on making good use of China-Singapore bilateral cooperation mechanism platforms. It is of special and important significance for China and Singapore to ensure the success of the meetings of cooperation mechanism between China and Singapore when our two countries are making concerted efforts to contain the COVID-19 and steadily resume work and production. Both sides should implement the important consensuses of the leaders of the two countries, well prepare and accumulate results for the meetings, and push China-Singapore relations for new progress on the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of bilateral diplomatic relations.

Both sides also exchanged views on issues of common concern including the relations between China and the United States and the South China Sea issue, and agreed on strengthening communication and coordination, so as to jointly promote regional peace and stability.
