On December 18, 2020, External Security Commissioner of the Foreign Ministry Cheng Guoping held a video meeting with Chairman of UAE International Center of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi. Chinese Ambassador to the UAE Ni Jian attended the meeting via video link.

Cheng Guoping said, the UAE is China's important strategic partner in the Middle East and the Persian Gulf region. China stands ready to work with the UAE to implement important consensus reached between the two leaders, and lift the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership to a higher level. Counter-terrorism and security cooperation is an important component of China-UAE relations and fighting the East Turkestan Islamic Movement (ETIM) is China's core concerns regarding terrorism. Under the complex situation, China and the UAE should strengthen cooperation in counter-terrorism and de-extremism, and contribute to enriching bilateral ties, and maintaining peace and stability of the two countries and the region.

Ali said, the UAE speaks highly of the fruitful results of the bilateral comprehensive strategic partnership, and appreciates China's strong support in fighting against the pandemic. The UAE will work harder for new outcomes in bilateral relations. Terrorism is a common challenge faced by the world. All countries should abandon differences, and keep close coordination and cooperation instead of politicizing the terrorism issue. The UAE maintains a firm position in fighting the ETIM, and is willing to strengthen cooperation with China.
