Friedrich Merz said that the Germany-China relationship is progressing well, with continuous growth in cooperation across various fields including politics and economy. Germany is willing to work with China to uphold openness and mutual benefit, promote fair trade, and jointly address crises and challenges, which serves the interests of both sides. The new German government adheres to the one-China policy.
Wang Yi said that not long ago, President Xi Jinping had an important phone call with Chancellor Friedrich Merz, providing strategic guidance and political guarantee for bilateral relations. As a mature and successful major-country relationship, the China-Germany relationship does not target any third party, nor is it dependent on or dictated by any third party. China-Germany relations enjoy a strong internal driving force, demonstrating a high degree of stability. China appreciates the willingness of the new German government to promote greater development of China-Germany relations with a constructive attitude and pragmatic spirit, and stands ready to maintain close high-level exchanges with Germany, make good use of consultation mechanisms in various fields, and work for the sustained, sound and stable development of China-Germany relations, which is not only beneficial to both sides but will also benefit Europe and the world.
Wang Yi stated that China is glad to see Germany's development and prosperity and its greater role in Europe and the world. He believes that the new German government will view China's development positively, uphold a rational and pragmatic policy towards China, earnestly respect China's core interests, support China's national reunification just as China unconditionally supported Germany's reunification in the past, and continue to abide by the one-China principle. The two sides had an exchange of views on the Ukraine crisis and expressed that China and Germany will maintain strategic communication to promote a peaceful resolution of the crisis.
