2022-01-20 22:51

On January 20, 2022, Ambassador Liu Xiaoming, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Korean Peninsula Affairs, had a telephone conversation with Special Representative of MOFA ROK for Korean Peninsula Peace and Security Affairs Noh Kyu-dok.

Liu said that it is in the common interest of all sides to maintain peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula. As facts have proven, blindly resorting to sanction and pressure on the DPRK will only intensify confrontation and escalate tension instead of solving the Peninsula Issue. The US should abandon the belief that sanction is the answer for everything, take concrete actions to address the legitimate concerns of the DPRK and eliminate the security threat against the latter, to create conditions for restarting the dialogue, continuously promoting the process of the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula and the building of a peace mechanism. China supports both sides on the Korean Peninsula in improving their relations, and supports the ROK in playing a constructive role in the Peninsula Issue.

Noh said that the ROK is dedicated to promoting North-South reconciliation and cooperation and hopes to see an early restart of the dialogue to maintain the stability of the Korean Peninsula. The ROK values highly China’s important role in the Peninsula Issue and is willing to enhance communication and coordination with China.

Both agreed to keep in contact.
