A Delegation of World-Renowned Islamic Religious Figures and Scholars Visits Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region

From January 8 to 11, 2023, headed by Ali Rashid Al Nuaimi, Chairman of the World Muslim Communities Council and Chairman of the International Center of Excellence for Countering Violent Extremism, a delegation of world-renowned Islamic religious figures and scholars from 14 countries, including the United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia and Tunisia, visited Xinjiang at the invitation of the People's Government of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region. Deputy Director Li Xuejun of the Standing Committee of the People's Congress of Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region, Vice Chairman Abudurehap Tumuniyaz of Xinjiang Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, Ambassador Li Lianhe of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs of the Foreign Ministry, and others accompanied the delegation.

Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Secretary of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Regional Committee of the CPC Ma Xingrui met with the delegation. Ma Xingrui said, under the strong leadership of the CPC Central Committee with Comrade Xi Jinping at its core, Xinjiang has comprehensively implemented the guiding principles of the 20th CPC National Congress, fully and accurately implemented the Party's strategy for the governance of Xinjiang in the new era, taken counter-terrorism and de-extremism efforts in accordance with the law, promoted the high-quality development with a focus on people's livelihood, consolidated and developed ethnic unity, advanced the sound development of religions, and comprehensively improved the legal protection of human rights, creating a new landscape of security, stability and vigorous development across Xinjiang. The remarkable achievements of social harmony and stability, economic prosperity and development, and people living and working in peace and contentment have been widely recognized by the international community. However, some countries, in total disregard of the truth, keep propagating lies and fallacies about China's Xinjiang, in an attempt to undermine Xinjiang's stable development and smear China's image. He expressed the belief that through this visit, the delegation will have a deeper understanding of the real Xinjiang of China, so that the malicious attacks, rumors and slanders against Xinjiang will fall apart. Ma Xingrui expressed his hope that the delegation will give an extensive account of what they have seen and heard during their visit to Xinjiang, so that the international community can have a comprehensive and objective understanding about China's Xinjiang, its development achievements and the happy life of its people of all ethnic groups.

Ali highly appreciated the great achievements made by Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in counter-terrorism, de-extremism and all-round poverty alleviation, among other aspects, saying that the Chinese civilization and Islamic civilization have a tradition of friendly exchanges. The delegation is ready to make efforts to promote deeper cooperation between China and the Islamic world, make an objective and fair voice on issues related to China's core interests, and actively spread a positive image of China. The delegation is ready to strengthen religious exchanges with China, help religious believers enhance their national identity, strengthen youth education and training of religious personnel, and jointly combat terrorism and eliminate extremist ideologies.

The delegation of world-renowned Islamic religious figures and scholars went to Urumqi, Altay, Kashgar and other cities, where they visited mosques, the Xinjiang Islamic Scripture School, vocational education colleges, ancient cities and old streets, and museums. They visited Urumqi International Land Port Area and other Belt and Road hubs. They met face-to-face with religious people and local people, and witnessed the harmonious coexistence of all ethnic groups and the happiness of the people in Xinjiang, and the full protection of freedom of religious belief, and had an in-depth understanding of Xinjiang's successful experience in poverty alleviation and rural revitalization. They spoke highly of Xinjiang's legal and policy framework, practice and outcomes in counter-terrorism and de-extremism, and highly praised Xinjiang's great achievements in development. They look forward to further strengthening cooperation with China in relevant areas.
