On May 23, 2023, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on Eurasian Affairs Li Hui held talks with Director General of Political and Security Affairs at the French Foreign Ministry Frédéric Mondoloni in Paris, France. The two sides exchanged views on the political settlement of the Ukraine crisis, China-France relations, and other issues.

Recalling President Emmanuel Macron's successful visit to China last month and the positive outcomes it produced, Li Hui said that both sides should follow through on the important common understandings reached between the two heads of state, continuously deepen practical cooperation in various fields, maintain close communication and coordination on major international issues and regional hot spot issues, and continue to make new contributions to world peace, stability, and development.

Li Hui said that China and France have many common understandings on the Ukraine issue. Taking the "four points" put forward by President Xi Jinping on what must be done as its fundamental approach to addressing the Ukraine crisis, the Chinese side is ready to strengthen dialogue and exchanges with all relevant parties on the basis of China's Position on the Political Settlement of the Ukraine Crisis, to continue expanding common ground for a political settlement of the crisis, and gradually build consensus and lay a solid foundation for ceasing the hostilities. China supports Europe in enhancing strategic autonomy and promoting the building of a balanced, effective, and sustainable European security architecture.

Mondoloni said that since the beginning of this year, high-level exchanges between the two countries have been close and frequent, continuously promoting new progress in the France-China comprehensive strategic partnership. As permanent members of the UN Security Council, France and China have stepped up dialogue on a wide range of issues, including the Ukraine issue. That is of great significance. France highly values Special Representative Li Hui's visit and looks forward to China continuing its constructive role in ceasing hostilities. France is ready to strengthen dialogue and cooperation with China.
