President Hassan Rouhani of Iran Meets with Wang Yi

2015/02/16

On February 15, 2015, President Hassan Rouhani of Iran met with Foreign Minister Wang Yi at the presidential palace in Tehran.

Rouhani said that Iran attaches great importance to developing relations with China. A sound and stable development of bilateral relations is beneficial not only to the two countries, but also to regional and global peace and prosperity. The Iranian side would like to positively respond to China's initiative of constructing the "One Belt One Road", and expand cooperation with China in such fields as infrastructure, energy, production capacity, agriculture and tourism. Iran speaks positively of China's just and positive role in the negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue, and is willing to strengthen coordination with China for a negotiation result to the satisfaction of all parties.

Wang Yi said President Xi Jinping and President Rouhani have had several meetings in the last two years which charted the course for China-Iran relationship. China is ready to, together with Iran, construct "One Belt One Road", and make a connection between Iran's "Look East" policy and China's acceleration of opening-up to the west. By expanding industrial cooperation and combining China's advantageous surplus capacity and Iran's needs of promoting industrialization, the two sides could complement advantages for common development on the basis of keeping cooperation in energy and other traditional fields. China is willing to, together with Iran, strengthen coordination in international and regional affairs, promote democratization in international relations and safeguard the legitimate rights and interests of the developing countries. The negotiations on the Iranian nuclear issue have entered a crucial stage. China appreciates President Rouhani's emphasis that Iran is not seeking nuclear weapons, and hopes Iran and the six-party could seize the opportunities and overcome the difficulties with a firm belief, so as to unremittingly promote the negotiations for a comprehensive agreement with mutual benefit and win-win results as soon as possible.
