Wang Yi: Hope the Implementation of Comprehensive Agreement Will Open up New Prospect for China-Iran Mutually Beneficial Cooperation

On July 14, 2015, when giving an interview to Chinese and foreign media after the six countries and Iran reached a comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, Foreign Minister Wang Yi expressed his hope that the implementation of the comprehensive agreement will open up a new prospect for China-Iran mutually beneficial cooperation.

Wang Yi noted that China and Iran enjoy traditional friendship, strong complementarity in economy and sound foundation in bilateral cooperation. However, the objective cause of the Iranian nuclear issue affects the China-Iran exchanges. With the implementation of the comprehensive agreement on the Iranian nuclear issue, which covers the measures of gradual easing of bilateral and multilateral sanctions against Iran, the relations between Iran and all other countries including China will witness new progress. Iran once played a pivotal role in the ancient Silk Road. Both the Iranian leaders and the Iranian society highly appreciate the initiative of "Belt and Road" put forward by President Xi Jinping, and hope to join the construction of the "Belt and Road" at an early date, so as to inject new vitality and vigor into the economic development of Iran. China hopes that the implementation of the comprehensive agreement will open up new prospect for China-Iran mutually beneficial cooperation and bring benefits to the two peoples.
