Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Zhong Jianhua Visits South Sudan

From May 5 to 6, 2016, Special Representative of the Chinese Government on African Affairs Zhong Jianhua visited South Sudan, during which he met respectively with President Salva Kiir Mayardit, First Vice President Riek Machar, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Deng Alor Kuol, Minister of Petroleum Dak Duop Bichiok, and Minister of Mining Taban Deng Gai of South Sudan, as well as head of the United Nations Mission in the Republic of South Sudan (UNMISS) Ellen Margrethe Løj and Secretary-General of the Joint Monitoring and Evaluation Committee (JMEC) Cabedi.

Special Representative Zhong Jianhua, on behalf of the Chinese government, offered warm congratulations to South Sudan over the successful formation of the transitional government of national unity, and exchanged in-depth views with all sides on continuously promoting the peace process in South Sudan and the implementation of the country's peace agreement, strengthening China-South Sudan friendly and mutually beneficial cooperation and other topics. South Sudanese leaders highly appreciated the Chinese side for sending special representative to visit South Sudan first, which serves to show the great importance placed by China in developing friendly relations with South Sudan. The South Sudanese side expressed heartfelt gratitude to China for its active participation in promoting the peace process in South Sudan and the large amount of valuable assistance to the South Sudanese people, who will never forget the profound friendship of the Chinese people. It is hoped that the Chinese side will keep enhancing its support and actively participate in the peace reconstruction in South Sudan.
