China and Cambodia Hold Secretary-General Meeting of the Fifth Inter-government Coordination Committee

From March 21 to 23, 2019, Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou travelled to Cambodia to hold Secretary-General Meeting of the Fifth China-Cambodia Inter-government Coordination Committee with Secretary of State for the Ministry of Economy and Finance Vongsey Vissoth of Cambodia.

Kong Xuanyou expressed that China-Cambodia relations enjoy sustained and in-depth development. President Xi Jinping met in Beijing with King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk in a friendly manner, and Premier Li Keqiang and Prime Minister Hun Sen exchanged visits. Both sides reached important consensus on the building a community of shared future with strategic significance between China and Cambodia. Cooperation in the joint construction of the Belt and Road Initiative has yielded fruitful results and substantial progress has been made in the construction of major projects. This year marks the year of culture and tourism between China and Cambodia, and also the year of law enforcement cooperation between the two nations. The Chinese side is willing to, together with the Cambodian side, make full use of the mechanism of the Secretary-General Meeting of the Inter-government Coordination Committee, well implement the high-level consensus between the two countries, and well formulate action plans for China-Cambodia community of shared future, in a bid to prepare for the successful convening of the fifth Meeting of the Inter-government Coordination Committee.

Vongsey Vissoth said that Cambodia and China enjoy special friendship, with practical cooperation in various fields being constantly expanded to new breadth and depth. The Cambodian side attaches great importance to its relations with China, cherishes the traditional friendship between the two countries, and stands ready to make joint efforts with the Chinese side to give full play to the Inter-government Coordination Committee's overall and coordinative role in bilateral cooperation, so as to make positive contributions to the development of Cambodia-China comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership and the building of Cambodia-China community of shared future.

H.E. Wang Wentian, Chinese Ambassador to Cambodia, and representatives of relevant ministries and commissions of the two sides attended the meeting.

During his stay in Cambodia, Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou also met with Deputy Prime Minister of Cambodia and Chair of China-Cambodia Inter-government Coordination Committee of the Cambodian side Hor Nam Hong, as well as Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Prak Sokhon of Cambodia.

On the morning of March 22, Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou, as representative of the Chinese government, and Prime Minister Hun Sen attended the ground breaking ceremony for the construction of the Phnom Penh-Sihanoukville expressway.
