Vice Foreign Ministers of China and Russia Hold Consultation on the Korean Peninsula Issue and Other Issues

On March 28, 2019, Vice Foreign Minister Kong Xuanyou and Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov of Russia held a consultation on the Korean Peninsula issue, the Afghan issue and other issues in Chongqing.

Both sides agreed that maintaining dialogue and the momentum for detente on the Korean Peninsula and pushing for the progress of the political settlement process of the Korean Peninsula issue conform to the common interests of all parties. It is hoped that all the relevant parties, especially the Democratic People's Republic of Korea and the United States will continue contact and dialogue, meet each other halfway and continue their talks for achievements. Both sides agreed that peace talk and reconciliation are the only way for resolving the Afghan issue and realizing lasting peace in Afghanistan. Both sides supported the principle of "Afghan-led and Afghan-owned", and supported talks among different sides within Afghanistan to realize national reconciliation that is extensive and inclusive at an early date. Both sides also exchanged views on other regional issues. The two sides agreed to work together to continuously play an active part in promoting the proper settlement for relevant issues.
