The 25th China-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Senior Officials' Consultation Held in Hangzhou

On May 19, 2019, the 25th China-Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Senior Officials' Consultation was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province. The meeting was co-chaired by Assistant Foreign Minister Chen Xiaodong and Undersecretary of Department of Foreign Affairs Enrique A. Manalo of the Philippines and attended by senior officials or representatives of senior officials of other ASEAN countries and Deputy Secretary-General of the ASEAN.

Chen Xiaodong reviewed the implementation of the 21st China-ASEAN Leaders' Meeting last year, and introduced the proposals of the Chinese side for the 22nd China-ASEAN Leaders' Meeting of this year. Chen Xiaodong expressed that the Chinese side firmly supports the building of a community with a shared future for the ASEAN and ASEAN's core position in East Asia cooperation, and is willing to strengthen the integration of the high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative and development strategies of the ASEAN, well implement China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership Vision 2030, deepen practical cooperation in various fields and jointly build an even closer community with a shared future.

Senior officials of other ASEAN countries spoke highly of the leading role of China-ASEAN relations in East Asia cooperation, congratulated the Chinese side on the 70th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China and highly praised the second Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation and the Conference on Dialogue of Asian Civilizations held in China recently. They expressed the willingness to enhance integration of the development strategies of the ASEAN and the Belt and Road Initiative, deepen cooperation in such areas as innovation and sustainable development and push for new progress of bilateral relations.

All parties expressed that in the next stage, all parties will, guided by China-ASEAN Strategic Partnership Vision 2030, jointly promote high-quality cooperation under the Belt and Road Initiative, start to drawing up the Plan of Action to Implement the Joint Declaration on ASEAN-China Strategic Partnership for Peace and Prosperity 2021–2025, strengthen cooperation in traditional areas such as connectivity, production capacity, economy and trade, innovation and people-to-people and cultural engagement as well as cooperation in non-traditional areas, and jointly work to complete negotiations on the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership at an early date, so as to constantly advance economic globalization and regional economic integration and deliver more benefits to people of both sides.
