The 18th ASEAN-China Senior Officials' Meeting on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties (DOC) in the South China Sea Successfully Held

On October 15, 2019, the 18th ASEAN-China Senior Officials' Meeting on the Implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties (DOC) in the South China Sea was held in Dalat, Vietnam. Director-General of the Department of Boundary and Ocean Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Hong Liang and senior officials from ten member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) attended the meeting.

All parties had in-depth discussions on the situation in the South China Sea, the full and effective implementation of the DOC, and strengthening maritime practical cooperation and consultations on the Code of Conduct (COC) in the South China Sea. All parties agreed that the situation in the South China Sea is generally stable, and reiterated the importance of the full and effective implementation of the DOC in safeguarding peace and stability in the South China Sea and enhancing trust and confidence among all parties. The meeting had a full exchange of views on the second reading of the COC text, reviewed and confirmed new maritime practical cooperation projects, and updated the DOC implementation plan for 2016-2021.

From October 13 to 14, all parties also held the 30th Joint Working Group on the DOC.
