On March 12, 2025, Director-General of the Department of Asian Affairs of the Foreign Ministry Liu Jinsong met with former U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary of State and current Director Emeritus of the 21st Century China Center at the University of California San Diego Susan Shirk, who was in China for lectures, at the latter's request. The two sides had an academic exchange on Asia-Pacific affairs.
