On January 31, 1979, Temple University of Philadelphia held a ceremony in the Blair House in Washington to confer on Deng Xiaoping " honorary doctorate of laws".

Vice- Premier Deng Xiaoping met with Harold Brown, visiting Secretary of Defense of the United States, on January 9, 1980.

On April 28, 1984, Deng Xiaoping, Chairman of the Advisory Committee of Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, met President Reagan in the Great Hall of the People in Beijing.

On April 29,1984, President Reagan and his wife visited the Museum of Terracotta Warriors and Horses in Xi'an with great interest. They went down to the 10- metre -deep pit, at tentatively listened to the introduction, watched the historic relics closely, and were greatly amazed by the achievements of China's ancient civilization. President Reagan asked the host," May I touch the horse?" And he jokingly added, " "He will not kick me." 

US President George Bush arrived in Beijing by a special plane on February 25, 1989 for a working visit to China. The picture shows President Bush waving his greetings to the crowd at the Tian'anmen Square.
