Li Kenong

Mr. Li Kenong was born inChaohuCounty(nowChaohuCity) ofAnhuiProvinceon15thSeptember 1899and passed away on9thFebruary 1962.He served as vice minister of Foreign Affairs of the People's Republic ofChinafrom October 1949 to October 1954.

Mr. Li Kenong joined in the Communist Party of China in 1926 and was assigned to be the member for publicity of the CPC Shanghai Huzhong District Committee in 1928.After arrival in the Soviet Base inJiangxiProvincein 1931, he took the posts of director of the Execution Department of the State Political Security Bureau, director of the Political Security Bureau of the First Army of the Red Army, then director-general of the Working Department of the Headquarters of the Red Army.After the Long March, he became director-general of the Liaison Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.Before and after the Xi'an Incident in 1936, he was involved in Zhou Enlai's talks with general Zhang Xueliang in the capacity of secretary-general of the CPC Delegation.In the War Against Japanese Aggression, he was assistant to Zhou Enlai and Ye Jiangying in efforts for a national united front in KMT-ruled area.He successively assumed the posts of Director of the Office of the Eighth Route Army and the New Forth Army inShanghai,Nanjingand Guiling, vice-minister of Social Affairs Department of the CPC Central Committee, secretary-general of the Headquarters of the Eighth Route Army, secretary-general of the Yangtz River Bureau of CPC Central Committee.InChina's War of Liberation, he was minister of Social Affairs Department of the CPC Central Committee, member and secretary-general of the CPC Delegation to the Peking Office of Military Mediation and Execution.

After the founding of the People's Republic ofChina, he became minister of the Department of Investigation of the CPC Central Committee, minister of the General Intelligence Department of the Central Military Commission, deputy chief of the General Staff of the Chinese People's Liberation Army.During the tenure of office of vice foreign minister, he was head of the Chinese Delegation for Armistice Negotiation inKoreafrom 7thJanuary 1951until the signing of the Korean Armistice Agreement in July 1953.In 1954, he accompanied Premier Zhou Enlai for the Geneva Conference as the representative of the Chinese Delegation, thus making his contribution to the peaceful solution of the Korean Issue.

He was elected to be member of the CPC Central Committee in 1956.
