Yang Wenchang

Vice Minister, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in charge of West Asian and North African, and African Affairs and Personnel Affairs

Born in Shandong Province in September 1944, Yang Wenchang is a college graduate.

From 1972 to1974, he was Staff member in the Chinese Embassy in the UK. From 1974 to 1979, he served as Staff member and then Attaché in the Chinese Embassy in the Republic of France. From 1979 to 1984, he served in the Department of International Organizations and Conferences, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as Attaché, Second Secretary, and Deputy Director. From 1984 to 1987, he was Deputy Director, Director of the Department of Personnel, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1987 to 1990, he was Deputy Director General of the Department of Personnel, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1990 to 1993, he was Director General of Department of Personnel, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. From 1993 to 1995, he was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of China to Republic of Singapore. From 1995 to 1997, he was Ambassador, Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He was appointed Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs in 1997 and promoted to the position of Vice-Foreign Minster in 1998. He is married with a son.
