Russian President Medvedev Meets with Dai Bingguo

On January 24, 2011, Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met in Moscow with visiting Chinese State Councilor Dai Bingguo, who is here attending the fifth round of China-Russia strategic security consultation. Both sides held talks in an in-depth and friendly manner on Russian-Chinese bilateral relations as well as international and regional issues of common concern.

Dai first conveyed the cordial greetings and good wishes from Chinese President Hu Jintao to President Medvedev who expressed thanks and asked Dai to convey his sincere regards and good wishes to President Hu.

The Russian president said the Sino-Russian strategic partnership of coordination has been developing further in all aspects, as the leaders of the two nations kept close contact last year and cooperation in the economic and trade sphere has been deepened. This year marks the tenth anniversary of the signing of the Treaty of Good-Neighborliness and Friendly Cooperation between the People's Republic of China and the Russian Federation, a great event that is worth celebrating. Russia sees China as its closest partner, a position that will never be changed, Medvedev stressed. Russia is willing to work together with China to promote all-round cooperation and maintain close communication and coordination on international and regional issues in bilateral areas and the SCO framework, Medvedev said. He said the strategic security consultations between Russia and China serve as an important channel for bilateral coordination and communication on major strategic security issues, and are very important to enhancing bilateral strategic mutual trust.

Dai said that last year President Medvedev paid a successful visit to China and the two heads of state met six times. Both sides reached important consensus on comprehensively deepening the Sino-Russian strategic partnership of coordination, pushing forward bilateral ties. The first ten years of the 21st century had witnessed great development of China-Russia strategic partnership of coordination. China attaches great importance to the strategic coordination with Russia and is willing to work with Russia to develop their strategic partnership of coordination at a higher level, the Chinese state councilor said.
