Xi Jinping Holds Talks with General Secretary of the LPRP Central Committee and President Bounnhang Vorachith of Laos

On May 16, 2017, General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and President Xi Jinping held talks in Beijing with General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President Bounnhang Vorachith of Laos, who was in China for the Belt and Road Forum for International Cooperation (BRF). The two heads of state agreed to take the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" as an opportunity to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation, realize win-win development and jointly create a bright future for China-Laos relations.

Xi Jinping welcomed Bounnhang Vorachith's attendance at the BRF and his visit to China, and appreciated Laos' strong support for China's hosting the BRF, especially President Bounnhang Vorachith's support. Xi Jinping said that, last year I met with General Secretary twice, and we had an in-depth communication on bilateral relations and issues of common concern, reaching important consensuses. I was delighted to see that with the joint efforts, the above important consensus are being implemented, vigorously pushing forward the China-Laos relations. Appreciating Laos' active support and participation in the "Belt and Road" construction, China is willing to take the joint construction of the "Belt and Road" as an opportunity to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation with Laos, so as to achieve win-win development and create a bright future together.

Xi Jinping stressed that China and Laos are a community of common destiny with strategic meaning. Both sides should hold firm correct direction of the development of China-Laos relations, and promote the long-term, sound and steady development of China-Laos comprehensive strategic partnership. The two parties and both countries, especially the top leaders, should keep close and high-level exchanges and exchange views on major issues of bilateral relations in a timely manner and strengthen the political leading and top-level design of bilateral relations. I am willing to keep the tradition of annual meeting with General Secretary Bounnhang Vorachith and welcome General Secretary to visit China regularly. Both sides should deepen cooperation between the two parties, strengthen exchanges of experience and mutual learning on party governance and state administration, and jointly improve the governing capacity and level. Both sides should promote comprehensive cooperation and take the signing of the cooperation action plan for the "Belt and Road" construction as an opportunity to closely align development strategies and intensify coordination in key cooperation projects, so as to benefit the two peoples. Both sides should strengthen the international coordination and collaboration and jointly safeguard the overall situation of China-ASEAN relations and regional peace and stability.

Boungnang Vorachith congratulated on the fruitful results achieved at the BRF, and believed that it will vigorously promote the connectivity and economic growth in Asia, and bring more opportunities to the development of Laos. Speaking highly of the achievements made in the development of China-Laos relations, Laos is satisfied with the progress made in bilateral cooperation on major projects under the framework of the "Belt and Road" construction. It is hoped that the leaders of both parties could maintain close exchanges, enhance exchanges of experience in state governance and administration as well as of cadres training, and deepen cooperation in such areas as economy, trade, investment, infrastructure construction and local affairs, bringing benefits to both countries and people in the region at large.

After the talks, the two heads of state jointly attended the ceremony of exchanging cooperation documents between China and Laos in the fields of the "Belt and Road" construction, economy, technology, education and electricity.
