Yang Jiechi Attends a Reception Marking the 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of China-Cuba Diplomatic Relations

On September 24, 2020, Yang Jiechi, Member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee, attended a reception marking the 60th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Cuba, which was co-organized by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Cuban Embassy in China. Yang Jiechi also met with Cuban Ambassador to China Carlos Miguel Pereira.

Yang Jiechi said, Cuba, as the first country in the western hemisphere to establish diplomatic relations with the People's Republic of China, has taken the lead in developing relations with China in Latin America. General Secretary Xi Jinping attaches great importance to the relations between the two Parties and the two countries. The two countries' joint efforts in combating COVID-19 have set an example for the international community in responding to global challenges and have practiced the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity with concrete actions. The Chinese side is willing to deepen cooperation with the Cuban side to safeguard common interests and push bilateral relations for greater progress.

Carlos Miguel Pereira said, bilateral cooperation in responding to COVID-19 fully proves that solidarity and cooperation is the most powerful weapon for the international community to defeat the pandemic. The Cuban side will stay committed to promoting bilateral cooperation and push bilateral relations for further development.
