Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa Meet Separately with Yang Jiechi

On October 9, 2020 local time, Sri Lankan President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa met separately with Yang Jiechi, Member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and Director of the Office of the Foreign Affairs Commission of the CPC Central Committee in Colombo.

Yang Jiechi said, China and Sri Lanka are good friends and partners who always support and help each other firmly on issues concerning each other's core interests. In the fight against COVID-19, the two sides have worked together, supported each other and enhanced their traditional friendship. China always attaches great importance to its relations with Sri Lanka. Guided by the important consensus reached by the heads of two states, China will continue to maintain close high-level exchanges and consolidate the political trust; China will plan for long-term cooperation, synergize our development strategies, and work together to achieve more results under the Belt and Road initiative; China will continue to promote the cooperation in infrastructure, trade, tourism, agriculture, education, science and technology, blue economy and other areas to enhance the wellbeing of our two peoples.

Yang Jiechi said, China is willing to further enhance the cooperation in the fight against COVID-19, and support the World Health Organization to play a leading role to build a community of common health for mankind.

Gotabaya Rajapaksa said that Sri Lanka and China enjoy a long history of friendship. China's selfless help and governance experience are of vital importance to Sri Lanka's economic and social development. Sri Lanka is firmly committed to consolidating the friendship between the two countries and is ready to make every effort to promote the cooperation in the comprehensive development of the Colombo Port City, the Hambantota Port, and other key projects under the Belt and Road initiative, so as to elevate our mutually beneficial cooperation and bring more benefits to the two peoples.

Mahinda Rajapaksa said, Sri Lanka warmly welcomes the visit of Chinese delegation. China's strong support in various fields has enhanced Sri Lanka's ability to resume work and production. Sri Lanka will continue to firmly support China, welcome more Chinese enterprises to invest and do business in Sri Lanka, and look forward to further strengthening humanistic exchanges between the two sides.
