On July 6, 2022 local time, State Councilor and Foreign Minister Wang Yi met with Philippine Foreign Secretary Luis Enrique Manalo in Manila.

Manalo said, the Chinese foreign minister is the first foreign minister the new Philippine government received since its inception. China and the Philippines are friendly neighbors, with cooperation in various fields yielding fruitful results. In the face of the COVID-19 pandemic and the complicated and volatile international and regional situations, the Philippines and China stand shoulder to shoulder, and understand and support each other, bringing benefits to the two countries and two peoples. The Philippine side will continue to firmly pursue the one-China principle, and hopes to enhance mutual trust and friendship with China and elevate bilateral relations to a higher level. The Philippine side holds that the existing disputes over islands and reefs should be settled through diplomatic means and peaceful consultations, so as to jointly safeguard peace and stability in the South China Sea.

Wang Yi said, China and the Philippines are close neighbors facing each other across the waters, with geographical proximity, close people-to-people bonds and cultural affinity. The exchanges between the two countries have lasted for over a thousand years. The only right way for China-Philippines relations is to stay committed to good neighborliness and friendship, and to deepen mutually beneficial cooperation. In recent years, under the strategic guidance of the two heads of state, bilateral relations have witnessed all-round development, and cooperation in various fields has made great strides, bringing tangible benefits to the two peoples. President Ferdinand Romualdez Marcos has won the election and taken office, turning a new page in China-Philippines relations. President Marcos stressed that China is a strong partner of the Philippines and the Philippines will continue to pursue a friendly policy toward China to further boost bilateral relations. China highly appreciates that. At this new starting point, China is ready to work with the Philippine side to build on the good momentum, forge ahead in the same direction, jointly plan future cooperation, further deepen the friendship between China and the Philippines, and create a new "golden age" of bilateral relations. We should make joint efforts to be good neighbors, good relatives and good partners.

Wang Yi said, the two sides should always properly handle maritime issues from a strategic and overall perspective, put them in an appropriate place in bilateral relations, give play to political wisdom, continuously advance joint development, speed up consultations on the Code of Conduct in the South China Sea, make the pie of maritime cooperation bigger, and constantly expand mutual benefit and win-win results.

Both sides agreed to constantly advance high-quality Belt and Road cooperation and strive for more early harvest.

Both sides agreed to strengthen China-ASEAN relations, jointly safeguard the ASEAN-led regional structure, follow through on the important consensus reached at the leaders' summits at the end of last year, and further deepen and substantiate the China-ASEAN comprehensive strategic partnership.

Both sides agreed to strengthen coordination and cooperation in multilateral affairs, jointly defend the legitimate rights and interests of developing countries, and jointly promote peace, development and prosperity in the region.

The two sides also exchanged views on the Myanmar issue, the situation in Europe, and other issues of common concern.

After the talks, the two sides jointly unveiled the Davao City-Samal Island Connector Project and witnessed the signing of cooperation documents.
